The institute


 Founders

The Training and Research Institute for Systemic Psychotherapy, founded in 2011, is directed by Athena Androutsopoulou, PhD, Tsabika Bafiti, PhD, and George Kalarritis, MMedSci, clinical psychologists and systemic psychotherapists. All three have been training and supervising trainees in systemic psychotherapy at least since 1998, alongside their clinical work.

Memberships-Accreditations

The institute is a Full Member of EFTA-TIC and member of the platform for trainer exchange of EFTA-TIC. It is also an Full Member of NOPG, the Greek Chamber of EAP.

Activities

Training. Its main activity is the training of mental health professionals in psychotherapy, a four-year clinical program, designed to meet the criteria of the European Family Therapy Association (EFTA), the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP), the Hellenic Association for Systemic Therapy (HELASYTH).. The co-founders and directors of the program are members of EFTA –CIM and HELASYTH and hold the European Certificate for Psychotherapy by EAP. Although systemic in its basis, SANE - System Attachment Narrative Encephalon.®, which is our perspective to training, is enriched with (i) attachment theory, (ii) narrative and dialogical theories in psychology, and (iii) recent findings in neurosciences.

The institute also offers a three-year training program in systemic diagnosis, addressed to psychologists who are interested in adopting a relational perspective to the use of well known psychometric and projective tests.

The Institute further organizes a variety of specialized seminars, short courses and continuing education lectures for mental health professionals and mental health students. It also organizes seminars for the public, and has a counseling and psychotherapy service linked to its clinical training program.


Research. Another important activity of the Institute is research and its interest in promoting knowledge concerning issues of mental health and psychotherapy. Trainees are taught qualitative research methds, and are actively involved in research and research projects and presentations.

A "safe base"
Our Institute was founded with the prospect of offering a ‘secure base’ for personal and professional growth for all trainees. By taking a personal interest in each and every one of them we hope to stand to this aim.
